In the Bible, “to and fro” means to claim ownership over, as the Bible states that the "Devil" Lords over the Earth, and walks “to and fro and up and down” upon it, in search of “those to devour.” And Devour he did.
The night JJS met her, he would dream of her in a Wedding Dress, dancing with her shadow. The last time the Artist was with her, they had "disappeared" together, as they made love madly over the internet. He was left unable to tell her what making love madly to her meant to him, for what would be the last time they would truly speak; for when he returned to tell her, he watched her enter a room with the "Devil." He left.
When the Artist returned to tell her goodbye the following day, it seemed "the Devil" was there yet again. JJS and Bekka barely spoke that day.
Her last words to him were "We are not alone.", and then she turned away.
He left, never to return to the room. He never got to tell her what she meant to him.
